Silver Mountain Park
The Silver Mountain Park is an exceptional site for ice and rock climbing, hiking and snowshoeing. Silver Mountain is a real paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Located on the territory of the municipality of La Conception, near the Mount Tremblant ski area in the Laurentians, the municipal park of Silver Mountain is the ideal place to practice climbing or hiking.
Initially, the park was privately owned by Gaetan Castillloux. He transferred the title of the park to the city of La Conception and now keeps active in maintaining the climbing areas and opening new rock surfaces to the public. Both seasoned and amateur rock climbers will find interest in the many different trails that are offered. If you are a first time climber, or just don’t have much climbing gear, the park does offer gear for visitors. For anyone that is new to rock climbing, there is an on-site association of guides that will help you have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Another major sport in the park is ice climbing in winter. Some passages are equipped with pipes that run water down the surface of the rock to create a great ice climbing terrain. For those that want to get a little bit higher up in the mountains, there is plenty of mountaineering to be done at Montagne D’Argent. There is also the option to ski tour through the mountains if you would rather not hike them, and if you really want to switch things up there is dog sledding available in the park too. The park association has worked up a special deal with a local dog sledding team owner who will offer a good discount to anyone that is calling for use of her services within the Montagne D’Argent Park. Be sure you bring a tent for camping so you’re able to stay overnight and take full advantage of the mountain. If you are camping, remember to bring your own drinking water supply for your own convenience.
The park boasts over 250 routes of all levels and over 80 of those climbs are done in a traditional style, meaning with full rock climbing gear. According to “legend,” this mountain was named due to an economic and natural phenomena: first, in the 1920s, a huge wildfire devastated the region. After the fire, blueberries magically appear and found a fertile ground, invading the territory consumed by the fire, the mountain and the surrounding area. In 1929 during the great economic crisis, blueberry harvesting on the mountain and surrounding area provided people with the means to earn money selling blueberries at the public market of St-Jerome. This is why people called the site Silver Mountain.
The Silver Mountain site offers several activities and services. Indeed, climbing, hiking, reception chalet,
camping, firewood, showers, first aid kit are included in the package. At Silver Lake, a large floating dock has been installed for your comfort and rest areas are provided with tables for picnics. Gervais Lake is another lake beautiful and welcoming. Access to the site is allowed in the morning until three hours before sunset for all users.
In short, Silver Mountain is a real paradise for outdoor enthusiasts whether for rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking and backpacking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and even paragliding.
You are sure to find something you enjoy at Montagne D’Argent. The park offers so many different activities that there is always something to do year-round at the park. Even dogs are allowed. You may find yourself visiting Montagne D’Argent quite often with all there is much to do on that mountain.
