Sommet Dieppe at Mont St Hiliare

Hiking is an immeasurably healthy way to boost your spirit while exercising your body and mind and almost anyone can do it regardless of age and no restricting health condition.
My name is Sheryl and I grew up in Jamaica on a farm, in the lush valleys of Portland under the shadows of the Blue Mountains. As a child, walking was a way of life whether it was to school, or traipsing over our parents’ property onto the property of our neighbors. During summer, we would spend glorious hours climbing trees, eating fruit and playing in the numerous small rivers and just hanging out. We were hiking and keeping close contact with nature… Of course we didn’t have a name for it then. We were just enjoying our simple life and flitting from one adventure to the next.

My first official hiking experience was to the Blue Mountain Peak at 2256 m (7402 ft). The Blue Mountains are the highest mountain range in Jamaica and the longest continuous valley ranges in the Caribbean. It also boasts a rich vegetation of trees and over 500 species of flowering plants. Needless to say it was a beautiful and unforgettable experience. Unfortunately the pressures of life happen and it would be 15 years later here in Quebec that I ventured onto the trails again. I have been hitting the trails here in Quebec (there are hundreds to discover), and sometimes camping and it has done wonders for my self-confidence and honing my outdoor skills.

I’m not trying to set any records nor am I trying to do anything extreme. This web site is about sharing the possibilities and encouraging regular folks to get out there, connect with nature and unwind while getting in some exercise. Here you’ll find some tips, advice and words of wisdom to make your explorations more safe, pleasurable and satisfying.
Enjoy the site and please don’t be shy to leave your comments on a blog entry. I’d love to hear about your hiking adventures, your questions or suggestions. Thank you for stopping by.
